- Conflict minerals
- Natural material that has become social because of quarrels among forces in some regions. Gold, tin, tantalum, and tungsten from the Central African countries, such as Congo, Sudan, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia, which have frequent disputes, are considered to be the 'mineral conflicts'.
It is a mineral that is widely used in the fields of electronics, lighting, machinery, and aerospace, and many international transactions have made it a profit base for the forces involved in war and crime.
- Since 2009, the United Nations has called on Member States to restrict the use of conflict minerals. Many countries, including the United States and the European Union, have responded to the "Conflict Minerals" regulation.
U.S. regulators required all companies listed on the securities trading market by May 31, 2014 to report to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) whether or not to use 'conflict minerals'. The goal is to stop the use of related materials and international trade to create regional (central African) conflict and to cut off the money lines of criminal groups.
